“My favorite part is the competition aspect. I get to meet a lot of other people throughout the National Guard who really like to get after it and do hard stuff,” says U.S. Army Sgt. Jonathan Wyble, an infantryman with Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment, Washington Army National Guard, competing in the Region VI Best Warrior Competition.

Wyble joined the National Guard to continue his family’s legacy of military service while pursuing opportunities for personal and professional growth. During his three years of service, he has gained lifelong friendships, educational benefits, and career opportunities that have helped shape him as a leader. Through the Best Warrior Competition, Wyble hopes to push himself beyond his limits, sharpen his skills, and compete alongside some of the National Guard’s top Soldiers. He says competing against Soldiers from across the region has highlighted the high caliber of talent throughout the National Guard and challenged him to perform at his best.

"As you get higher in the competition, the caliber of the Soldiers gets higher as well."

Wyble has also supported domestic response operations in Washington, assisting communities impacted by flooding. He considers airborne operations among the highlights of his military career and takes pride in representing his home state of Washington on the regional stage. His dedication to duty reflects his commitment to service, self-improvement, and accomplishing difficult challenges.
