GULFPORT, Miss. — Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Gulfport unveiled a new high-capacity automated pizza kiosk at the Colmer Dining Facility, May 29, 2026, marking the latest phase of a campus-style modernization project designed to enhance quality of life and expand food access for base personnel.
The automated kiosk holds up to 70 refrigerated, pre-assembled pizzas. When a patron places an order via the touchscreen interface, an internal robotic arm retrieves the selection and transfers it to an integrated high-speed convection oven, dispensing a hot pizza within three to four minutes.
The installation focuses on expanding meal options outside standard operational hours, directly supporting the physical readiness and morale of stationed Seabees and tenant commands.
"It's going to increase freshness, quality, and taste for our Sailors," said Culinary Specialist 1st Class Travis Nardine, assigned to Colmer Dining Facility.
The dining overhaul aligns with broader shore-installation capability goals aimed at sustaining force resilience through modern amenities.
"Warfighter readiness is inextricably linked to the quality of service and support we provide from the Shore," said Vice Adm. Scott Gray, commander, Navy Installations Command. "By providing our Sailors with high-quality, nutritious food and top-tier wellness resources, we are directly investing in their physical and mental resilience. A well-supported, healthy, and focused Sailor is a more lethal warfighter, and these pilot programs are a critical step toward ensuring our force is always ready to meet any challenge."
The facility upgrade builds on Colmer’s record of operational excellence, which includes earning the 2024 Capt. Edward F. Ney Memorial Award in the East Coast General Mess Category—the U.S. Navy’s highest accolade for food service management and sanitation.
Galley leadership emphasizes that technological additions complement, rather than replace, their core mission of service to the fleet.
"Renovating the galley was just the beginning of many things that we will continue to do," Nardine said. "We will not stop expanding our options, and we will continue to improve the dining experience here."
By continuously upgrading food service infrastructure, NCBC Gulfport ensures its dining facilities maintain Ney Award-level standards while adapting to the around-the-clock operational schedules of modern warfighters.
