TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. –The 325th Fighter Wing Equal Opportunity office and the Department of the Air Force’s Negotiation and Dispute Resolution Program hosted Tyndall Air Force Base's first NDR workshop, Aug. 20-21, to ensure personnel remain fully prepared for their warfighting missions.
The two-day course was designed to equip leaders and supervisors with redefined communication and problem-solving skills, enabling them to bridge organizational gaps and shift from positional power to finding mutual gains.
"Unresolved workplace disputes degrade unit cohesion, drain operational energy, and negatively impact personal as well as mission readiness," said Master Sgt. Marica Moore, 325th Fighter Wing Equal Opportunity superintendent. "Having accessible NDR pathways allows the 325th Fighter Wing to resolve conflicts at the lowest organizational level and the earliest stage possible."
The workshop’s curriculum was tailored to meet Tyndall’s specific operational demands based on workforce data and analysis from the past two years. Training focused on early intervention strategies, helping teammates adapt in dynamic environments, de-escalating conflict and building trust despite power dynamics.
"The workshop was a practical toolkit designed to help our teammates handle day-to-day workplace conflicts before they escalate into formal complaints," Moore explained. "It teaches supervisors and managers how to act as a problem-solver rather than an adversary."
While the workshop focused on training leaders, the broader NDR program is open to all DAF Airmen, Guardians and civilian employees. It covers a broad spectrum of workplace issues, ranging from communication impasses and interpersonal differences to allegations of discrimination, harassment and reprisal.
Historically, federal sector Alternative Dispute Resolution programs demonstrate a high success rate. They often resolve 50-70 percent of mediated workplace disputes during the informal phase.
"Early resolution prevents the escalation to formal grievances, administrative EEO hearings, or litigation, saving thousands of man-hours and fostering a healthier command climate," Moore said. "A unit that can’t talk can’t fight."
The workshop reinforced that resolving disputes is a shared responsibility essential to the wing's combat readiness. By prioritizing open communication and providing accessible resolution pathways, the installation aims to ensure every team member remains focused on the mission rather than internal friction.
Personnel experiencing a workplace conflict can initiate a confidential resolution process by directly contacting the 325th FW EO Office. An EO practitioner will schedule an initial intake, conduct a brief assessment and guide individuals through their available options.
