TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. — In August 2026, Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Twentynine Palms recognized Hospital Corpsman 1st Class April Million as Senior Sailor of the 3rd Quarter, highlighting her leadership, mentorship and commitment to supporting operational readiness and patient care aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) Twentynine Palms.

Million, a Palmdale, California, native, serves as the leading petty officer (LPO) for the Adult Medical Care Clinic (AMCC), where she oversees clinical operations and administrative responsibilities while providing mentorship and guidance to Sailors assigned to the clinic.

“A typical day for me consists of ensuring the clinical operations and administrative tasks are executed efficiently and providing mentorship to our Sailors,” Million said.

Through the AMCC, Million and her team provide medical care and readiness support to Marines and Sailors aboard MCAGCC Twentynine Palms, helping ensure warfighters remain healthy and medically ready to accomplish their mission.

“As LPO, I oversee essential medical care and readiness support provided to Marines and Sailors aboard the MCAGCC, directly enhancing the operational capacity and survivability for the Fleet Marine Force,” Million said.

For Million, one of the most rewarding aspects of serving as a leader in Navy Medicine is watching the Sailors she mentors develop personally and professionally.

“The most rewarding part of my job is getting to see junior Sailors hit milestones and achieve their goals,” she said.

Million said her selection as Senior Sailor of the Quarter represents not only an individual achievement, but also the collective effort of the Sailors she works alongside each day.

“Being selected as Senior Sailor is a great honor for me to be able to represent my chain of command and my junior Sailors at the command level,” Million said. “It’s a direct result of all the hard work our team at the AMCC puts out on a daily basis, and I am appreciative of the opportunity to be able to highlight the work of our clinic.”

Million arrived at NMRTC Twentynine Palms in January 2026. She initially joined the Navy seeking experience in the medical field, opportunities to deploy and education benefits. Although she originally planned to leave the Navy after completing her first enlistment, her experience during her first deployment changed the direction of her career.

“Initially, I intended to get out after my first contract; however, after my first deployment I decided to make it a career,” Million said.

Million has earned the Fleet Marine Force, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist qualifications, reflecting experience across multiple Navy operational communities.

Military service also played an influential role in Million’s life before she joined the Navy. Her stepfather served in the military for 21 years and entered her life when she was 11 years old.

“He made a significant impact on my life growing up,” Million said. “I still look to him for his advice and guidance when it comes to things in my own personal career now.”

Outside of work, Million enjoys spending time with her family, working out and being outdoors.

When asked what advice she would give to other Sailors, Million emphasized humility and the importance of continually developing professionally.

“Always be humble,” Million said. “Things are ever-changing and require constant training, guidance and the willingness to continue to grow.”

Million’s selection as Senior Sailor of the Quarter recognizes her leadership and commitment to developing Sailors while supporting NMRTC Twentynine Palms’ mission of delivering patient care, maintaining warfighter readiness and preparing Navy Medicine personnel to support the Fleet and Fleet Marine Force.

Navy Medicine's 44,000+ talented and ready forces optimize health readiness, deliver quality healthcare, and provide global expeditionary medical support to warfighters.
