The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command Business Transformation Office hosted Data Analytics Day Aug. 12, providing employees hands-on training in artificial intelligence and data analytics tools designed to improve efficiency and decision-making across the command.

More than 440 participants enrolled from AMCOM locations worldwide for the event, which focused on helping the workforce understand available AI capabilities and how to select the right tools for specific tasks.
Don Nitti, AMCOM executive director, opened the training by thanking employees for investing in their professional development.

“The tools that are available today and that are coming in the future are literally changing the world,” Nitti said. “What you’re going to learn today is critical to making this organization better.”
Lisa Hirschler, BTO director and chief data and analytics officer, said the growth in participation reflects AMCOM’s willingness to embrace emerging technology.

“Our focus today is going to be AI,” Hirschler said. “Today we’re going to teach you. We’re going to show you what you’ve got and all the things you can do with it.”

Tom Ferris, a BTO data scientist, introduced participants to fundamental AI concepts and explained how different capabilities can be applied to everyday tasks.

“Like with any conversation, you have to make sure you’re speaking the same language,” Ferris said. “What we’re going to do is put some common definitions, common terms and then some of the common metrics that we’re going to be using.

The training demonstrated how AMCOM employees can turn emerging technology into practical capability — using data and AI to work smarter and strengthen support to the warfighter.
