POZNAN, POLAND — The 510th Regional Support Group (510th RSG) and the 734th Regional Support Group (734th RSG) conducted a transfer of authority ceremony at Camp Kościuszko, Poznań, Poland, demonstrating V Corps’ commitment to NATO's eastern flank on August 13, 2026.
The transfer of authority ceremony, which included casing the 510th RSG colors and uncasing the 734th RSG colors, marked the official transition of responsibility between the incoming and outgoing units. It also symbolized the continued readiness and unity of effort in Europe and NATO’s eastern flank.
"The 510th RSG has earned this moment of recognition…of exceptional service," said U.S. Army Brig. Gen. John B. Mountford, V Corps Deputy Commanding General - Readiness. “It also celebrates mission accomplishment and reaffirms our unwavering commitment to the defense of Europe and the NATO alliance.”
Throughout its nine-month deployment, the 510th RSG enhanced the quality of life, improved fitness facilities, and helped facilitate Soldiers’ continual operations and maintenance of their equipment.
"They moved over 40,000 tons of equipment and supplies, ensuring combat formations remain postured and ready. They provided logistics, maintenance, security, transportation, communication, and training, allowing our operational units to focus on their mission," Mountford said. "The 510th didn't just support U.S. forces, they integrated seamlessly with our NATO allies."
The transition represents V Corps' continued role as the U.S. Army's only forward-deployed corps in Europe, which synchronizes combat-ready forces alongside NATO Allies and partners across the region to enhance security, interoperability, and deterrence.
"I want to extend my sincere thanks to the 297th RSG. Thank you for everything," said U.S. Army Reserve Col. Daniel Meyers, Commander of the 510th RSG. "You’re here to deter an enemy that has one language, one culture, and one goal. Should you meet the enemy in battle, win. Stand up and say ‘Who is next?’"
As the 510th RSG passes its torch, the 734th RSG now assumes responsibility for Operation European Assure, Deter, and Reinforce, continuing building upon the relationships and capabilities that 510th RSG maintained and established while in Europe.
"Today's ceremony is not just a formal transfer of a mission. It is a seamless continuation of commitment, vigilance, and partnership,” said Iowa Army National Guardsman Col. Anthony J. Smithhart II, Commander of the 734th RSG. “ Let's get to work. To the top, it will be done.”
Maintaining the rotational presence across Europe, the 734th RSG assumption of authority begins a new story of not only Operation European Assure, Deter, and Reinforce, but also Operation Atlantic Resolve – one small piece of the U.S. commitment to NATO Allies and partners, particularly along the eastern flank.
