Airmen from the 419th Logistics Readiness Squadron prioritized community engagement during their annual tour at Nellis Air Force Base by connecting with students at local Mojave High School.
As part of an organized outreach effort, thirty-two squadron members spent time engaging with students from the school’s Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) program. During the visit, the 419th LRS personnel discussed their motivations for enlisting in the United States Air Force Reserve and shared personal experiences regarding their military service.
The Airmen also detailed the critical role logistics readiness plays in supporting Air Force operations worldwide. From supply and transportation management to cargo movement and deployment support, the team highlighted how the 419th LRS contributes to mission success both at home station and in deployed environments.
Volunteer Greenhouse Restoration
While at the school following their JROTC engagement, the Airmen took the initiative to volunteer their off-duty time to restore a neglected greenhouse on campus. The team contributed a combined 128 volunteer man-hours to clean, organize, and revitalize the facility. Working together, they removed debris, cleared overgrown areas, reorganized supplies, and prepared the greenhouse for future educational use.
This restoration project will allow students and faculty to once again utilize the greenhouse for horticulture studies and hands-on learning opportunities. Mojave High School staff expressed their appreciation for the Airmen’s efforts, noting that the completed project will provide students with a highly functional environment for classroom instruction and agricultural education programs.
Fostering Community Ties
This combined engagement and volunteer event provided the Airmen a unique opportunity to strengthen community relationships while mentoring students interested in leadership, military service, and future career opportunities. It also reinforced the Air Force core value of “Service Before Self,” demonstrating that Reserve Airmen play an important role not only in mission readiness but also in supporting and inspiring the communities they visit.
