FORT KNOX, Ky.— Soldiers assigned to the Kentucky National Guard's 38th Division Artillery (DIVARTY) welcomed Families, friends and supporters to Fort Knox for a Family Day celebration, June 13, 2026.
Held during the unit's annual training, the event gave Soldiers the opportunity to visit with their Families while showcasing the equipment, training, and teamwork that defines the 38th DIVARTY mission. Family members toured military vehicles, met unit leadership, and participated in activities designed to provide a closer look at military life.
“Planning Family Day was important to me because I recognize the sacrifices our Family members make for us,” said U.S. Army Capt. Logan England, 38th DIVARTY training officer. “This was the first brigade-widefield artillery Family Day that has been held in five years.”
England added that the organization has undergone significant changes since the last Family Day. Previously, both the 1st Battalion, 623rd Field Artillery and the 2nd Battalion, 138th Field Artillery fell under their former headquarters, the 138th Field Artillery Brigade. Following a recent force structure transition, both battalions realigned under the 38th DIVARTY, while the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery of the 138th Field Artillery Brigade is transitioning to become the 138th OFC.
“I really wanted this to be memorable and fun for everyone,” England said. “There is something special about Family members getting together and seeing what our Soldiers are doing and getting to experience that firsthand. Also, there is a certain pride that our Soldiers feel when they get to show their Families what they do, and let them be a part of it.”
Leaders emphasized that Family Day strengthens connections between Soldiers and their support networks. It helps Families better understand the demands of military service while reinforcing the partnerships that contribute to unit readiness.
U.S. Army Col. Jonathan Gocke, 38th DIVARTY commander, said that Families are an essential part of everything the unit accomplishes.
“The support they provide at home allows our Soldiers to remain focused on the mission,” said Gocke. “Family Day is our opportunity to thank them, share what we've been doing during annual training, and recognize that our readiness starts with strong Families. I couldn’t be more proud of the Soldiers of the 38th DIVARTY, and am thrilled to be able to show them off to their Families!"
The celebration included food, games, and demonstrations for guests of all ages. Food and beverages for the event were provided by Houchens Food Group, with logistical assistance from the Elizabethtown Price Less IGA.
Throughout the afternoon, Soldiers and Families spent time together away from the training environment, strengthening relationships critical to military resilience.
By opening its training environment to loved ones, the 38th Division Artillery reaffirmed its commitment to building strong Families, resilient Soldiers, and a ready force.
