ROTA, Spain– Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Pongmon Tunbuth, assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Rota, supports patient care as a certified surgical technologist assisting surgical teams during a variety of medical procedures.
Tunbuth, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, joined the Navy seeking new challenges and an opportunity to make a difference through military service. Since entering Navy Medicine, Tunbuth has advanced from hospital corpsman to certified surgical technologist, developing specialized skills that support patients before, during and after surgery.
In the operating room, Tunbuth prepares surgical suites, maintains sterile environments and assists surgeons during procedures. Technical expertise and attention to detail help ensure safe and effective surgical care for service members, retirees and beneficiaries throughout the region.
Tunbuth attributes much of that success to maintaining a positive attitude and remaining open to learning from others. Every interaction is viewed as an opportunity for growth, and Tunbuth strives to share knowledge and experience with junior Sailors.
"I wanted to challenge myself and be part of something bigger, something that impacts people," said Tunbuth. "It has been quite a journey, and I am all about making a difference."
Throughout a Navy career that began in 2022, Tunbuth has embraced opportunities for personal and professional development while working alongside healthcare professionals dedicated to providing high-quality patient care.
Today, Tunbuth continues supporting Navy Medicine's mission in Spain by helping surgical teams deliver critical medical care that restores and sustains warfighter readiness. Through direct support to surgical procedures, Tunbuth helps ensure service members are medically prepared to deploy, operate and support missions around the world.
NMRTC Rota serves as a force multiplier in Navy Medicine’s strategic global medical support mission throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East while also supporting operational readiness and maintaining a strategic repository of expertise at Naval Hospital Rota on the Iberian Peninsula.
