LIBREVILLE, Gabon –U.S. Army's 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) and elite Gabonese forces, including the Republican Guard, 1st Régiment Parachutiste Gabonais, and Marine Fusiliers, concluded a Joint Combined Exchange Training on June 19, 2026, near Libreville.
The multiweek JCET focused on small-unit tactics, marksmanship and mission planning. The training culminated in a four-day culminating exercise from June 16-19, where participants executed realistic infiltration, direct action, and exfiltration missions to test their proficiency.
“It essentially serves as practice, running different mission types with partner force members,” said the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) team lead. "It also enables us to prepare for deployments by actually moving to another country, packing out all our gear, getting there and back."
A defining feature of the training was coordination - not only between U.S. and Gabonese forces, but also across the Gabonese services themselves. Republican Guard, parachute, and naval infantry elements trained side by side, sharpening their ability to operate as a joint force across the varied terrain that defines Gabon's security environment, including its Atlantic coastline.
