Airmen from the 702nd Munitions Support Squadron and 52nd Logistics Readiness Squadron took part in a cross-base exercise June 30, 2026, to improve communications support in a simulated remote operating environment.
During the exercise, the integrated team moved a Transportable Global Aircrew Strategic Network Terminal from Büchel Air Base, Germany, to Spangdahlem Air Base, where they established a communications node designed to support units in remote operating environments.
T-GASNT provides around-the-clock communications, enabling command and control nodes to reliably receive and transmit messages in alternate and austere locations.
“The 702nd MUNSS is paving the way with the newly integrated TTPs,” said Staff Sgt. Tyler Hermes, 702nd MUNSS non-commissioned officer in charge of command, control and communications maintenance. “These new TTPs allow us to set up the system in less time and move it anywhere on the continent by land.”
The training tested the team’s ability to coordinate across communications, operations and logistics functions while moving, setting up, maintaining and later dismantling the system.
Once the training objectives were complete, the team tore down the equipment and returned it, validating each phase of the process from movement to employment and recovery.

Amanda Schuyler, 702nd MUNSS command and control operations flight chief. “This exercise integrated Airmen from multiple career fields to leverage specialized skills, encourage cross-functional support outside of primary specialties, improve collaboration, and proactively identify operational blind spots.”
By training together in the field, participants strengthened working relationships and refined procedures that support contingency operations.
“Lethality is built on collective proficiency,” Schuyler said. “The more competent we are in our individual duties and the better we understand our supporting partners, the more lethal and resilient we become as a unified combat force.”
