LAGOS, Nigeria —The U.S. Army’s 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) and the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service (NNSBS) concluded a Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) on June 29, 2026, in Lagos. This engagement advanced special operations capabilities in Nigeria, enhanced coastal security proficiency, and reaffirmed a defense partnership critical to the Gulf of Guinea.
The six-week JCET delivered partner-focused, U.S.-enabled training specifically tailored to shared interests. Throughout the exchange, NNSBS and U.S. Special Forces focused on medical extraction and trauma care, small unit tactics, marksmanship, direct action operations, and maritime interdiction. The curriculum directly addressed using multi domain operations, spanning both maritime zones and land warfare, that the NNSBS routinely confronts.
“This training built upon the strong foundations of the NNSBS, focusing on expanding counterterrorism capabilities for future operational deployments," said the U.S. Special Forces team leader. "We concluded the training with a realistic, three-day culminating exercise. Ultimately, this engagement significantly increased interoperability between our two units, should the need for future combined operations arise.”
The JCET supports larger efforts aligned with a shared commitment to regional security, where collaborative training enhances capabilities to address common threats and promote stability across the Gulf of Guinea.
