CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea — Mrs. Simona Clark, spouse of U.S. Army Pacific Commanding General Gen. Ronald Clark, visited Brian D. Allgood Army Community Hospital July 9 to hear directly from hospital leaders and healthcare professionals about the experiences and needs of military families and other beneficiaries receiving care in Korea.
Clark was accompanied by Mrs. Kristan Brown, spouse of Eighth Army Deputy Commanding General for Operations Brig. Gen. Todd Brown. U.S. Army Col. Joleen Pangelinan, director of BDAACH, commander of Medical Department Activity-Korea and commander of the 549th Hospital Center, hosted the tour. U.S. Army Col. Larry McCord, commander of the 65th Medical Brigade, also participated.
During visits to the Emergency Department, Pharmacy, Patient Centered Medical Home, Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, and Women, Infants and Children Unit, clinical leaders discussed how BDAACH delivers care to Soldiers, families, retirees and other military beneficiaries throughout Korea. Discussions also addressed the unique healthcare needs of an overseas military community and opportunities to improve access to care and the patient experience.
The visit gave Clark and Brown an opportunity to listen to the professionals who provide care each day and gain greater insight into the challenges affecting military spouses, dependents and other beneficiaries. The engagement also helped elevate community concerns to senior military family advocates who can share those perspectives with Army leaders and support continued efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery.
Following the clinical tour, Pangelinan presented an overview of BDAACH’s mission, capabilities, and role within the Defense Health Agency and the Indo-Pacific Military Health System. Leaders emphasized the hospital’s commitment to listening to the community, acknowledging areas requiring further improvement, and collaborating across Army and military health organizations to provide more responsive, patient-centered care.
As the Army’s only hospital on the Korean Peninsula, BDAACH supports the health and medical readiness of U.S. Forces Korea while serving a geographically dispersed beneficiary population. Senior leader and military family engagements such as this help raise awareness of the community’s healthcare needs, strengthen understanding across commands, and reinforce a shared commitment to improving care for those serving and living in Korea.
