GREAT LAKES, Ill. (July 10, 2026)– Capt. Kent Davis relieved Capt. Ken Froberg as commanding officer of Recruit Training Command (RTC) during a traditional change of command ceremony held July 10 in the USS Midway Ceremonial Drill Hall at RTC, the Navy's only boot camp, at Naval Station Great Lakes.

Recruit Training Command, commonly referred to as "The Quarterdeck of the Navy," is located 30 miles north of Chicago and transforms approximately 46,000 civilians into basically trained Sailors each year.
A native of Coupeville, Washington, Davis enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1989 before commissioning as an Aviation Deck Limited Duty Officer in 2003. During his enlisted career, he served aboard USSConstellation(CV 64), NAS Whidbey Island Fire Fighting School and USSCarl Vinson(CVN 70), where he held key flight deck leadership positions before earning his commission.
As a naval officer, Davis served aboard USSGeorge Washington(CVN 73), USSAbraham Lincoln(CVN 72), USSGeorge H.W. Bush(CVN 77) and USSHarry S. Truman(CVN 75), leading flight deck operations and serving in a variety of leadership positions. Ashore, he served as Aviation Assignments Detailer in Millington, Tennessee; Force Handler at Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet; Executive Officer and later Commanding Officer of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit North Island; and most recently as Gun Boss aboard USSDwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) before reporting to Naval Air Systems Command's PMA-251 in October 2024.
Froberg, a Rhode Island native, assumed command of Recruit Training Command on July 18, 2023. A graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, he earned his Naval Aviator Wings of Gold in 2001 and spent much of his career flying the E-2C/D Hawkeye with carrier-based airborne command and control squadrons. His assignments included operational tours aboard USSKitty Hawk(CV 63), USSHarry S. Truman(CVN 75) and USSRonald Reagan(CVN 76); service with U.S. Strategic Command; command of Training Squadron Ten; Air Department Head aboard USSHarry S. Truman; and assignment as the U.S. Navy liaison to the Royal Navy in London.
During his command, Froberg led Recruit Training Command in its mission of transforming civilians into warfighting Sailors while overseeing the training of approximately 46,000 recruits annually. Following the change of command, he will assume command of Naval Station Great Lakes later this fall.
