FORT BRAGG, N.C.-- Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC) is proud to announce the transition of its behavioral health services, from the legacy Primary Care Behavioral Health model to the Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) Primary Care-Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI) program. This transition marks a significant enhancement in how comprehensive, holistic healthcare is delivered to the Fort Bragg military community.
The newly implemented PC-MHI program introduces a modernized, team-based approach to patient care. By directly integrating mental health professionals into primary care clinics, WAMC ensures that patients receive physical and mental health support seamlessly within a single, familiar clinical setting.
"Integrating mental health professionals directly into our primary care teams allows us to treat the whole patient right where they already receive their routine medical care," said Col. La’Shonia White, deputy commander for Mental Health Services. "This team-based approach reduces barriers to care, normalizes mental health support, and ensures our force and their families remain medically ready and resilient."
Under the DHA PC-MHI model, WAMC will deliver proven assessments, treatments, and prevention strategies for mental health challenges. The program is also designed to address physical health conditions influenced by stress and mental well-being—such as chronic pain, sleep disorders, and stress-related physical symptoms—ensuring all Military Health System (MHS) beneficiaries receive the highest standard of integrated care. Beneficiaries do not need to navigate separate specialty clinics for routine behavioral health concerns. Patients can seamlessly access these integrated services by simply speaking with their Primary Care Manager (PCM) during their regular medical appointments.
