MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP BLAZ, Guam — The Provost Marshal’s Office aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz achieved initial operational capability (IOC), marking a significant milestone in the continued development of the Marine Corps’ newest installation and enhancing its ability to provide law enforcement and force protection capabilities in support of the base’s growing mission in the Pacific.

IOC establishes PMO’s ability to conduct core law enforcement operations aboard the installation, including emergency response, traffic enforcement, physical security support, incident management and coordination with local and federal law enforcement partners. The achievement represents a major step toward the office’s eventual full operational capability and reflects years of planning, training and collaboration.

The milestone was made possible through the continued partnership between Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz and Naval Base Guam. Throughout the stand-up process, Naval Base Guam provided mentorship, training opportunities and operational support that helped PMO personnel develop the experience and expertise necessary to assume greater responsibility for installation security operations.

“Naval Base Guam laid the foundation in which PMO could build upon to conduct law enforcement and security operations aboard MCB Camp Blaz”. “Through Joint Region Marianas coordination efforts and our joint partners, we were able to achieve this historical milestone which enabled daily law enforcement operations from basic patrolling to report writing.” said Lt. Col. Robert Schulz, provost marshal, Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz.

In addition to establishing operational capabilities, PMO personnel worked to develop policies, procedures and organizational structures necessary to support a modern and resilient law enforcement institution aboard the installation. Their efforts ensured the office could effectively respond to incidents, support emergency management requirements and contribute to the overall readiness of the force.

“We are the ones creating that policy, we are the ones establishing the framework, we are the ones creating the baseline for everybody to have an understanding of what security and law enforcement looks like aboard this installation.” said Master Gunnery Sgt. Charles Hardesty, provost sergeant, Provost Marshal’s Office, Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz. “It’s incredible to see, we are constantly moving our own goalposts because we’re creating additional expectations.”

While IOC marks an important achievement, PMO leaders continue to focus on expanding capabilities, refining procedures and preparing for future growth as the installation welcomes additional personnel and infrastructure. The accomplishment reflects the dedication and professionalism of Marines, civilian law enforcement officers and support personnel committed to building a capable and resilient law enforcement organization from the ground up.

The achievement underscores Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz’s continued progress toward becoming a fully capable installation prepared to support operational readiness, regional security and the long-term presence of Marine forces in the Pacific.

“I would like to highlight a huge milestone, not just for Camp Blaz, but for the Provost Marshal’s Office and law enforcement in the Marine Corps as a whole.” said Lt. Col. Schulz, “We have not stood up a Provost Marshal’s Office in over 70 years, we just achieved that, so that is a major milestone for our MOS and Camp Blaz.”

As the Marine Corps Service Component for Joint Region Marianas, MCB Camp Blaz provides power projection capabilities that enable operational forces to train, deploy, redeploy, and reconstitute. MCB Camp Blaz also supports tenant organizations, military personnel, and their families, operating a training base that promotes the combat readiness of the Fleet Marine Force and the missions of other tenant commands. The base provides essential training venues, facilities, services, and support to meet the Marine Corps’ future combat requirements and remain responsive to the needs of Marines, Sailors, and their families.
