ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, Tenn. – Although new to Arnold Engineering Development Complex, Lt. Col. Evan Valdez is familiar with its mission. As he addressed those gathered to see him take on his latest assignment, he pointed out testing at AEDC has supported critical aircraft, missile and space system development programs across multiple U.S. programs. He will now play a significant role in this effort. Valdez assumed the role of AEDC Test Support Division chief during a June 5 Change of Leadership ceremony at Arnold Air Force Base, headquarters of AEDC. “I do not take this responsibility lightly, and I’m honored to lead the Test Support Division,” Valdez said after assuming leadership of the TSD. “I’m committed to empowering our Airmen and civilians, supporting our mission partners in advancing AEDC’s priorities. Together, we will continue building on the strong foundation already in place and delivering the excellence our nation expects from this organization.” As AEDC TSD chief, Valdez is charged with leading more than 900 military, civilian and contractor personnel to provide medical, civil engineering, communications, security, logistics and quality-of-life services. Valdez arrived at AEDC following an assignment at the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. As the Air Force’s premier senior professional military education institution, AWC annually develops elite joint, interagency and international leaders. While there, Valdez earned a Master of Strategic Studies, focusing his research on strategic leadership, joint warfighting plans and the principles of strategy. Commissioned in 2006, Valdez brings a wealth of analytical and leadership experience to AEDC. Holding degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and Saint Mary’s University, his career spans over a dozen assignments, including critical acquisition and staff roles at Air Combat Command at the Pentagon. Most recently, Valdez served in key point and command positions, including deputy assistant chief of staff for Operations at Joint Interagency Task Force West and as both 35th Force Support Squadron commander and 35th Mission Support Group deputy commander at Misawa Air Base, Japan. “To the men and women of the Test Support Division, I am truly excited and humbled to be a part of this incredible team,” Valdez said. “You’re responsible for one of the most diverse and critical sets of functions on this installation. In my eyes, you are the heartbeat of Arnold Air Force Base. I look forward to listening, learning and connecting with each of you so I can better understand and appreciate the full range of capabilities you bring to advancing the mission here. “Most importantly, I look forward to serving alongside of you as we continue delivering for the warfighter and for our nation.”
