The Hoosier Wing bid farewell to Chief Master Sgt. Troy Bell, after celebrating 31 years of service during his retirement ceremony June 6, 2026.
Colonel John J. Valdes III, 434th Maintenance Group commander, officiated the ceremony and spoke of Bell’s reliable work ethic, meticulous dedication to upholding standards and unique appreciation for his career field.
“Chief Bell was the gold standard chief for nearly four decades,” said Valdez. “His impact on the Wing and on generations of maintainers that he has trained and led cannot be understated. He truly left this place better than when he found it."
Bell was presented with a personalized letter of appreciation from Commander in Chief Donald J. Trump for his commitment, dedication and sacrifices made to ensure mission readiness.
“I extend my personal thanks and sincere appreciation of a grateful nation for your contribution to this country,” wrote Trump. “Those who follow in your footsteps will draw inspiration from your service. My best wishes to you for your happiness and successes in the future.”
Bell has had a broad range of mechanical and electrical experience after 31 years of combined service in active duty and Air Force Reserve. He began his career in 1988, enlisting in the 305th Organizational Maintenance Squadron as an Electrical and Environmental Systems Mechanic, before finishing his contract and heading into the private sector. He then later reenlisted in 1999 into the 434th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, where he rose the ranks, eventually becoming Quality Assurance Superintendent for the 434th Maintenance Group.
His most impactful role was during the addition of the Regional Periodic Inspection for the Air Force Reserve Command’s KC-135 fleet, where Bell managed the quality review of 26 aircraft from multiple reserve units and identified more than 13,000 discrepancies. These distinctive accomplishments are reflective of a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
“I want to thank my family, my coworkers,” Bell said. “I know it takes a lot of work to put a retirement on, and I just want to say thank you for the past couple of decades.”
