TULLAHOMA, Tenn. — Tennessee Army National Guard Soldiers participated in radio communications training at the Tullahoma Volunteer Training Site on May 30, 2026, strengthening critical skills used to maintain communication and operational readiness across the force.
The training was led by Pfc. Caleb Hamilton of the 301st Troop Command and Spc. John Geyer of the 208th Medical Company Area Support. Both Soldiers serve as Signal Support Systems Specialists (25U), the Army’s communications experts responsible for operating and maintaining tactical radio networks.
Throughout the course, Soldiers received instruction on Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS) radios, including proper radio etiquette, radio assembly, frequency loading procedures, communications data storage and troubleshooting common equipment issues.
Participants also practiced transmitting Green 2 reports, a standard readiness report used to communicate personnel and equipment status.
Students included Sgt. 1st Class Geovani Mariscal and Spc. Geovani Mariscal, both assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 301st Troop Command; Pfc. Emani Johnson of the 208th Medical Company Area Support; and Sgt. Arthur Scott of the 194th Army Band.
The hands-on training provided Soldiers an opportunity to gain confidence operating communications equipment while reinforcing procedures necessary to maintain reliable communications in both training and operational environments.
The course was conducted concurrently with the 301st Troop Command’s individual weapons qualification event, allowing Soldiers to train on multiple mission-essential tasks during the same training period.
By improving proficiency with communications equipment and reporting procedures, the training supported the 301st Troop Command’s continued focus on building a ready force capable of communicating effectively, responding rapidly and accomplishing missions whenever called upon.
