KABUL- Afghan and coalition security forces detained two insurgents in Khost province overnight including a Haqqani Network commander who was actively planning attacks for the upcoming elections.

The commander coordinated and conducted attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition forces. He also engaged in propaganda campaigns from a local madrassa.

Based on intelligence reports, the security force targeted a compound in the village of Baday in Bak District to search for the commander. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants
to exit the buildings peacefully and then the combined security force cleared and secured the compound.

After questioning the residents at the scene, the security force detained the commander and one of his associates.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
