Every April, the Department ofWarobservesSexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month(SAAPM)to raise awarenessonthe impact of sexual violence andeducate the community on prevention strategies. By combining advocacy with art, the SAPR team continues to provide unique avenues for education, ensuring that every member of the Kirtland community understands their role in preventing harm and protecting the force.
The Sexual Assault Prevention and Response program is the cornerstone of advocacy within the military, led by the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) and supported by Volunteer Victim Advocates. The program provides 24/7 confidential support, crisis intervention, and guidance on both restricted and unrestricted reporting options. Beyond reactive support, the SAPR office focuses heavily on prevention training, giving Airmen the tools for effective bystander intervention and the ability to foster healthy unit climates.
