America Supports You: PGA HOPE arrives at Kirtland AFB
The Professional Golf Association’s (PGA) Helping Our Patriots Everywhere (HOPE) program introduces and teaches veterans and active-duty military to golf to enhance their mental, social, physical, and emotional well-being.

“You know, we throw the word ‘sacrifice’ around a lot, but everyone in this group knows it’s not just a word. It’s real. It’s the stuff you lived through,” said Col. Justin Secrest, 377th Air Base Wing and installation commander. “So, to all the veterans here, I just want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart.”

Tijeras Arroyo Golf Course currently operates two six-week HOPE sessions funded by a $14,000 PGA grant. The program serves veterans with a wide range of physical and psychological challenges, including limb loss, cancer recovery, prosthetic use, and varying levels of PTSD. Attendance ranges from 28–52 veterans, and the program maintains a “no one turned away” policy in partnership with Department of Veterans Affairs recreational specialists.

PGA’s HOPE program shows their commitment to veterans and active-duty military at Kirtland Air Force Base and the greater Albuquerque area.

“Thank you again for your service and your sacrifice. It means the world,” said Secrest. “I hope you have a great day out on the course.”
