KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea – U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Tyrone Wilson, a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and 8th Civil Engineer Squadron heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration journeyman was awarded the 8th Fighter Wing’s Pride of the Pack for the week of April 27 – May 1 for reinstating cooling for the 8th Operations Support Squadron Operations Center, ensuring optimal working conditions for 157 personnel across five sections, while enabling the support to generate 4,900 flight hours & 5,300 sorties.

As an HVAC journeyman, Wilson serviced three degraded distribution valves to supply vital equipment cooling to 8th Communications Squadron network facilities worth $55 million, ensuring continuous network accessibility. His efforts led to receiving a letter of appreciation from the 8 CS commander.

Wilson also co-led the training of 200 medics on contingency air conditioning equipment, advancing the Expeditionary Medical Support Unit Type Code bed down & extending trauma care to 3,000 patients.

He partnered with 8 FW Public Affairs to launch a mold mitigation campaign, creating an educational video to preserve quality of life for 2,900 Airmen residing in Pacific Air Force’s largest unaccompanied housing annex.

Finally, Wilson drove the completion of the $36,000 Radar project, upgrading three cooling units to protect the $3.5 million radio equipment.
