KABUL – Afghan and coalition security forces detained four suspected insurgents in Khost province overnight while in pursuit of a Haqqani Network facilitator operating in Bak district.

The facilitator coordinates and conducts attacks against Afghan and coalition forces and provides intelligence to Haqqani senior leadership located in Pakistan.

Based on intelligence reports, the security force targeted a compound in the village of Serkay in Bak district to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then the combined security force cleared and secured the compound.

After questioning the residents at the scene, the security force detained four suspected insurgents. They also discovered an automatic weapon and instructions for making improvised explosive devices at the scene.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
