Tampa, Florida- Sgt. Christopher Metcalf was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his outstanding actions as a production & analysis intelligence analyst.

Metcalf is a native of Lihue, Hawaii and joined the Marine Corps in September 2020. He recently augmented the intelligence division (G-2) of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Central Command (MARCENT), from Marine Corps Intelligence Activity (MCIA), based in Quantico, Virginia.

“I always felt a sense of duty; I love this country and wanted to do my part within the wider effort for a just cause. It is the reason I joined the Marine Corps,” said Metcalf. His efforts were instrumental in maintaining MARCENT’s proactive posture throughout initial major combat operations, by providing timely and relevant Indications and Warnings (I&W). Metcalf directly supported MARCENT in making lifesaving decisions for forward-deployed units.

“Sgt. Metcalf is a prime example of the hundreds of dedicated professionals within the intelligence community actively supporting the warfighter downrange,” said Master Gunnery Sgt. David A. Wilcox, G-2 intelligence chief. “He personifies the unrelenting initiative of a Marine who constantly seeks opportunities to contribute to the mission and be at the tip of the spear. His superior work ethic, analytical acumen, and dedication to his fellow Marines demonstrate the highest standards of professional warfighting.”

Metcalf created a comprehensive analysis on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) threats and capabilities for MARCENT leadership and forward deployed units, providing a deep understanding of the modern battlefield to counter adversary actions and protect friendly forces. Metcalf’s contribution to I&W significantly improved identification of UAV, leading to quicker recognition times of enemy threats.

“MARCENT assembled a great team here and it’s been a blast to be a part of it. I believe in the mission set before us,” said Metcalf.

Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Central Command (COMUSMARCENT), serves as the Marine Corps Service Component Commander to U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM).

COMUSMARCENT commands assigned Marine Corps, joint, and multinational forces; plans in support of USCENTCOM; advises senior and joint commanders on the employment of Marine forces; and deploys, sustains, and redeploys those forces to accomplish assigned missions and meet combatant command and service requirements.
