DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – Leaders from the 7th Bomb Wing signed a proclamation April 1, 2026, designating April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

U.S. Air Force Col. Ryan Stallsworth, 7th BW deputy commander, signed the proclamation. Attendees were invited to add their signatures in support of preventing sexual assault and raising awareness by sharing resources.

“Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a call to action,” said Marisa Hensley, Dyess AFB Sexual Assault Response Coordinator. “It reminds us that prevention, accountability and support must remain an active priority every day, not just this month.”

Each year, the 7th BW signs the proclamation to reinforce a culture of safety and empower Airmen to recognize and address behaviors that can contribute to environments where sexual assault or harassment may occur.

This year’s campaign theme, “STEP FOWARD: Prevent. Report. Advocate.”, is a call to action to the military community to encourage the use of victim recovery services available worldwide, eliminate behaviors that erode military unit effectiveness and enhance mission readiness by countering this crime.

“‘STEP FORWARD: Prevent. Report. Advocate.’ reinforces that combating sexual assault requires awareness and action,” said Hensley. “Every Airman engaged, every voice willing to speak up and every effort focused on protecting one another makes a difference.”

Dyess victim advocates emphasized that accessible support resources are essential to prevention efforts.

“The SARC office provides critical care and resources for those impacted by sexual assault,” said Edward Gonzalez, Dyess AFB Sexual Assault Prevention and Responsevictim advocate. “But it takes every Airman actively engaged to build and sustain a culture rooted in trust, respect and prevention.”

The 7th BW remains committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment. Leaders emphasize that preventing sexual assault is a shared responsibility that is essential to maintaining a ready and resilient force.

Throughout the month of April, a series of events will be held to promote awareness and provide opportunities for education and support.
