In a concerted effort to dominate the invisible battlefield of the future, engineering installation (EI) airmen from across the Total Force convened at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., March 8-13 to accelerate the expansion of the Air Force’s Spectrum Awareness Resolution Team (SART) capability.
The event brought together experts from active duty and Air National Guard units to refine and standardize the SART mission, which is critical for ensuring freedom of action in the increasingly contested electromagnetic spectrum (EMS). The EMS is vital to modern warfare, enabling everything from command and control and precision navigation to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
The 85th Engineering Installation Squadron led the training effort as the pilot unit for this capability, showcasing what it has learned through the early development of this team. Throughout the week, attendees focused on developing a comprehensive, community-wide training plan to ensure all EI airmen are prepared for complex wartime taskings. This initiative aims to produce a more lethal and ready force capable of identifying and mitigating electromagnetic interference to guarantee mission success.
"Our ability to operate freely across the electromagnetic spectrum is not guaranteed," said Maj. Christian Fiore, the 253d Cyberspace Engineering Installations Group (CEIG) deputy chief, Warfighter Communications Division, Massachusetts Air National Guard. "This collaborative effort is a significant step toward building the tactics, procedures and skilled personnel required to prevail in a sophisticated electronic environment. By unifying our approach, we ensure that no matter where our Airmen are deployed, they have the tools and training to outmaneuver our adversaries."
In addition to the training plan, the group laid the groundwork for a standard operating procedure, discussed modernizing logistics and equipment packages and advanced tactics development. The collaboration included Airmen from the 85th, 211th, 213th, 214th, 270th and 130th Engineering Installation Squadrons, as well as the 251st CEIG and 253rd CEIG, showcasing a unified commitment to advancing this crucial warfighting capability.
