SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – More than 300 high school student leaders from across North Texas and Oklahoma gathered here April 2 for the All-Star Leadership Day, a dynamic event designed to honor student influencers and provide hands-on exposure to U.S. Air Force and Space Force career opportunities.

Hosted by the 82nd Training Wing, the half-day experience featured aircraft tours, interactive demonstrations, and leadership challenge activities aimed at showcasing the values of service, teamwork, and innovation. Students engaged directly with Airmen and Guardians from various career fields, gaining insights into the diverse roles within the Air Force and Space Force.

“These young leaders represent the best of their generation—students who step up, speak out, and set the tone for their peers,” said Brig. Gen. Paul Filcek, 82nd Training Wing commander. “All-Star Leadership Day is our way of recognizing their influence and celebrating the values they already embody: service, teamwork, and integrity. We’re proud to open our doors to them and hope this experience fuels their continued growth as leaders in whatever path they choose.”

The event is part of a broader Department of the Air Force initiative to connect with student leaders in communities adjacent to military installations. Following the success of the inaugural event at the 171st Air Refueling Wing in Pittsburgh in 2024, All-Star Leadership Day is now being replicated at five installations nationwide throughout 2026.

“Being chosen as a student leader is a great honor knowing I have been recognized as a quality leader,” said Cyrus Horton, a senior from Wichita Falls Legacy High School. “I try to lead by example and I let people participate and come up with their own ideas when it is possible.”

The success of the event was no accident, it was the result of weeks of planning and coordination across the base.

“These young leaders reflect the same core values we live by in uniform, and it’s a privilege to celebrate their accomplishments,” said 2nd Lt. Abby Gaab, 82nd Security Forces Squadron officer in charge of logistics and resources and lead organizer for the event.
