Delia Chen, theDigital Adoptionlead-SharePoint and Power Platformwithin the Enterprise SolutionsBranchat Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, is settling into her role at the command, finding both challenges and rewards in her first year.
Chen, who joined Carderock just over a year ago, said the transition has been “a slight adjustment” butoverall,very positive.
“People here are really nice and helpful,” she said. “I’vemet a lot of great people and collaborated on many projects.It’sbeenan interestingplace to work.”
In her dual role, Chen manages the command’s SharePoint sites andassistspersonnel with technical questions. Sheworks with other warfare centers andhigherechelonstobrainstorm solutions to improve business processesat Carderock. On the Power Platform side, she meets with stakeholders to streamline workflows through automation and other technical solutions.
“There’s a lot to take in, and I don’t know if I’ll ever finish learning,” Chensaid. “But it’s been a journey, and I’m enjoying it.”
Chen’s path toCarderock began with a degree in international business and a marketing minor from James Madison University, where she graduated in 2011. Early in her career, she worked for tech startups, initially in project managementbefore moving into more technical roles that allowed her to address problems directly rather than waiting for an engineer.
Her experience with SharePoint and Power Platform inpreviouspositions drew her toCarderock, where she could have a larger impact on how these tools are used across the command.
Among her proudest projects so far are the creation of a registrationappand standing up SharePoint pagesfor the 2025 “Bring Your Child to Work” and “Bring a Friend or Family Member to Work” days, as well as aNAVSEA-wide STEM data callsolution thatcreated a seamless experience for collecting responsesacross 16 programswhile significantly reducing email communications.
“It’s been rewarding to see how leveraging these tools can help people in their day-to-day work,” Chen said.
For those interested in following a similar career path, Chen emphasized hands-on learning. “Thereare alot of resources out there. Google and YouTube are my friends,” she said.“Having a project in mind and working on it with SharePoint or Power Platform is a great way to get started.”
Outside of work, Chen enjoys fostering dogs with her husband–a pastime that has grown into a permanent household ofthree dogs, all former fosters.
