There is a unique strength in the Army community, the kind that shows up quietly, consistently, and when it’s needed most.
Army Emergency Relief has long been one of those steady hands, offering Soldiers and families a lifeline in moments of financial strain. But every now and then, a story comes along that reminds us just how far that support can reach.
Demetria Jordan a military dependent, now a Family Advocacy domestic violence victim advocate at Torii Station, knows that impact firsthand. She received an AER scholarship for all four years of her undergraduate degree, support that didn’t just help her stay in school, but helped her breathe. It’s the kind of relief that doesn’t just change a semester; it changes a trajectory.
“Receiving the scholarship lifted a weight off my shoulders and gave me breathing room to focus on my education and worry less about how I was going to pay for it,” said Demetria Jordan.
Today, she serves the very community that once helped her, standing beside families in crisis, offering safety, stability, and hope. And in full circle fashion, she now donates to AER each year, encouraging her family to do the same. “I encourage everyone to consider donating, because you are helping the members of your community,” said Demetria Jordan.
Her story is not an outlier; it’s the embodiment of what AER makes possible.
“You don’t have to look far to see the benefits of those donated dollars,” said Karoushia Jordan, AER officer in Army Community Service.
AER funds support soldiers and families in a variety of ways, including:
The annual AER campaign runs March 1 through June 1. Every contribution helps ensure that Soldiers and families never face financial hardship alone.
