MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. – The Marine Corps Service Data Office held a Generative and Agentic AI Workshop at Warner Hall, March 9-12, 2026.

The event aimed to identify high-impact AI uses, evaluate industry solutions, and establish a plan to integrate AI tools in the military environment to enhance warfighter capabilities.

“In my career, AI is really a game changer, said U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Joseph Matos III, the Commanding General of Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command. “There are a lot of capabilities for AI out there for the Marines.”

The workshop focused on AI use for mission planning support, automated reports, and synthetic training environments. The staff also provided demonstrations, where AI models simulated complex battlefield scenarios and showcased analysis of large volumes of intelligence data.

During the four-day event, the attendees, mixed with service members and civilians, collaborated in breakout sessions, where they practically aligned technological capabilities with operational needs.

“For some people, this conference is one of the first places people can share ideas about AI without people looking at them like they’re growing horns out of there head,” said U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Ryan Keller, the AI Liaison Officer of the Marine Innovation Unit.

The workshop ended with a call to keep testing new ideas and working together. It made clear that using generative AI isn’t just something for the future, but that it’s already here. Happening, and picking up speed. “AI is making us better, faster, and more effective,” said Matos, “and that’s what we need, especially in this time of rapidly changing threats and rapidly changing fights.”
