UNION CITY, Ga. – March 27, 2026 – U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Brittany Wolfe’s new mission is representation. The combat medic from Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been selected as one of 40 Soldiers and veterans to represent Team Army at the 2026 Warrior Games, marking a triumphant milestone in her ongoing recovery from a life-threatening medical crisis.

A reservist currently on active duty with the Fort Bliss Soldier Recovery Unit, Wolfe’s journey began with a mission she never expected: survival. Following severe, life-threatening complications from a surgery that led to liver and kidney failure, she was airlifted from Albuquerque to Colorado, where she awoke days later on dialysis.

“My mission initially at that time was just survive,” Wolfe recalled. “I had no idea what was going on. I just knew I had to keep looking toward the future and not give up.”

That determination carried her to the 2026 Army Trials, the Army’s premier adaptive sports competition, held at Fort Bliss from Feb. 25 through March 6.

It was there, alongside nearly 90 other wounded, ill, and injured Soldiers and veterans, that she competed for a spot on Team Army. Her performance secured her place, marking a pivotal milestone in her recovery.

Established in 2010, the Warrior Games support the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, ill, and injured service members. The annual event demonstrates the healing power of adaptive sports as a pathway to physical strength, mental resilience, and continued service.

“I’m only about four months post-op from hip surgery,” Wolfe said. “To now be selected for the Warrior Games shows that even while healing, I’m getting stronger every day.”

Adaptive sports have been instrumental in Wolfe’s recovery. As a lifelong athlete, she found that reconnecting with her competitive drive was a powerful motivator. "I haven’t lost that competitiveness, that drive and my love for sports, even if the sport looks a little different now," she stated.

Her journey also embodies a core principle of the Warrior Ethos: never quit. Throughout her hospitalization, her family remained a constant source of support.

“My family never left my side,” Wolfe said. “That support kept me going during the hardest part of my recovery.”

For Wolfe, selection to Team Army is a testament to her perseverance and marks the beginning of a new, empowering chapter that reflects the Army’s commitment to readiness and recovery through adaptive sports.

“My mission now is continue healing and to represent Team Army to the best of my ability,” Wolfe said. “I want to keep moving forward and show what’s possible.”
