1AD gains new warfighting capabilities U.S. Army story by Sgt. 1st Class Kyle Larsen
U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to the 93rd Military Police Battalion ‘War Eagles’ line Iron Soldier Field at Fort Bliss, Texas, March 12, 2026, during a ceremony marking the battalion's realignment from the 89th Military Police Brigade to the 1st Armored Division Sustainment Brigade as part of an Army restructuring initiative. The move enhances the division’s surveillance and security capabilities, improving safety for Iron Soldiers during mission execution.
"This [ceremony] represents a transition of leadership, from the 89th Military Police Brigade to the 1st Armored Division, Division Sustainment Brigade," said U.S. Army Col. Delarius Tarlton, commander of 1AD DSB. “The 93rd MP Battalion is no stranger to the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss, as their Soldiers work tirelessly each and every day to make Fort Bliss and surrounding areas safe for our Soldiers and their family members.”
The battalion brings additional capabilities to the division, including law enforcement, crowd control and surveillance expertise, enhancing the freedom of movement and operational reach of the division's warfighter.
“This realignment strengthens our ability to enable 1st Armored Division’s operations both here at Fort Bliss and in a large-scale combat operation,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Samantha Hoxha, commander of the 93rd MP battalion and director of the Directorate of Emergency Services. “As the Army transforms to meet future threats, Military Police remain essential to maintaining discipline, security, and operational freedom. This battalion serves as a direct enabling force for the Division to project combat power and protect the force.”
This marks the first significant restructure for 1AD, which will undergo additional force adaptations to meet the demands of the modern battlefield and large-scale combat operations.
The 93rd MP battalion has a storied history dating back to June 8, 1945, when it was constituted and activated in France near the end of World War II. The battalion was deactivated in Nov. 12, 1945, and reactivated Oct. 28, 1951, for service in the Korean War, and continued to answer the nations during the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm and the Global War on Terrorism.
