ST. LOUIS, Missouri - The sound of rousing marches and the proud rhythm of hoofbeats echoed through downtown St. Louis on Saturday, March 14, 2026, as the 1st Infantry Division Band and the Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard (CGMCG) of Fort Riley, Kansas, took part in the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Thousands of spectators lined the parade route, waving flags and cheering as the Soldiers of the “Big Red One” brought a distinctive Army presence to one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the Midwest. The event showcased the long-standing connection between the U.S. Army and the American public it serves.

The1st Infantry Division Band, known for its professionalism and musical excellence, energized the crowd with patriotic melodies and familiar tunes that celebrated American heritage. Meanwhile, the Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard, dressed in their service uniforms and riding specially trained horses, provided a living tribute to Army tradition and the enduring spirit of service.

Their participation reflects Fort Riley’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and public outreach across the Midwest. Beyond the pageantry, such appearances serve a deeper purpose: to remind the public of the Soldiers who stand ready to defend the nation, and to highlight the shared values of dedication, pride, and unity.

“Community events like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade allow us to express gratitude to the citizens who support the military,” said Bridget Olenik, Warrant Officer 1. “It’s also a chance for our Soldiers to connect personally with people outside the gates — to show that behind the uniform are neighbors, friends, and fellow Americans.”

From young children marveling at the horses to veterans saluting the passing colors, the 1st Infantry Division’s presence underscored the Army’s enduring message:We serve the people, and we are part of the community we defend. As the parade concluded and the last notes of the band faded from the city streets, the Fort Riley Soldiers left behind a lasting impression — one of pride, history, and mutual respect between the U.S. Army and the public it serves.
