KADENA AIR BASE, Japan –Members of the 18th Wing coordinated a simulated pre-deployment line as part of during a U.S. Air FORCE-led exercise Beverly Midnight 26 at Kadena Air Base, Japan, March 11, 2026. Deployment lines are used to process large numbers of troops for movements and ensure that every Airman is equipped with the correct gear and cleared administratively to meet mission requirements for upcoming deployments.
"We’re here to make sure everyone is 100% accounted for and ready before they deploy," said Senior Airman Jamel Powersgiles, 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron individual protective equipment journeyman. “We have a checklist that outlines all the mission essential items each member needs to be fully prepared and cleared to go.”
Conducting the PDF line during simulated combat conditions allows Airmen to train in high-tempo environments that mirror real-world contingency operations while identifying areas for improvement in communication and coordination.
“Having Airmen actually go through the line and see how extensive it is to go on deployment is very important for visibility and execution,” said Staff Sgt. Lauren Leake, 18th Medical Support Squadron medical readiness training manager. “The experience of going through the line during an exercise ensures that when a real-world event occurs, the PDF line moves quickly and seamlessly.”
Exercises like BM26 are essential for validating the 18th Wing’s readiness. By testing these processes under simulated pressure, the wing ensures that every Airman is prepared to take action when needed.
