U.S. Army and Cameroon Complete First Civil Affairs Joint Training Exchange

Garoua, Cameroon – U.S. Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA) and Cameroon’s elite Bataillon d’intervention Rapide (BIR) recently concluded their first Civil Affairs Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) in Garoua, Cameroon.

The milestone event, which concluded on February 12, 2026, marked a three-week collaboration aimed at fostering military partnerships and enhancing operational readiness.

During the training, U.S. Army forces, led by the 91st Civil Affairs Battalion, worked side-by-side with their Cameroonian counterparts to develop and refine a range of critical skills. The curriculum included tactical combat casualty care to save lives on the battlefield, civil engagement, civil reconnaissance, and civil network development - skills that support military operations while also strengthening ties with local communities.

“This training represents a significant milestone in our relationship with Cameroon’s BIR,” said the 91st Civil Affairs Battalion team lead. “Exchanging knowledge and expertise enhances our ability to achieve shared regional goals.”

The JCET program, a cornerstone of SOCAFRICA’s partnership-focused approach, is designed to build relationships and enhance security cooperation with partner nations. Through these exchanges, both forces strengthen their readiness and improve their ability to operate in complex environments.

“This isn’t just about tactical skills; it’s about building trust and strengthening interoperability between our forces,” said the 91st Civil Affairs Battalion team lead. “These partnerships pave the way for sustainable security solutions in the region.”

Civil Affairs training also emphasized the importance of supporting governance, development, and humanitarian efforts within local communities. By integrating advanced civil-military techniques, the program highlighted the critical role of collaboration during crises.

The successful completion of this JCET underscores the U.S.'s commitment to partnering with African forces and fostering stability through shared expertise and mutual trust.
