U.S. Marines Conduct Joint Combined Exchange Training with Kenyan Marine Commando Unit

Isiolo, Kenya — Members of the Marine Special Operations Team (MSOT) concluded a Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) with the Kenyan Marine Commando Unit (MCU) in Isiolo, Kenya, on February 7, 2026.

Throughout the JCET, the two units focused on operational objectives, strengthening their ability to integrate and operate as a team.

“This Joint Combined Exchange Training with the Kenyan Marine Commando Unit focused on mission-essential tasks for operations,” said the MSOT team lead. “The training included the integration of indirect fires to support maneuver elements, the employment of machine gun suppression, and the execution of fire and maneuver tactics.”

U.S. and Kenyan forces trained side-by-side in field conditions that replicated operational requirements. The engagement provided opportunities for both units to exchange tactics, techniques and procedures while refining small-unit coordination and communication.

“The team gained valuable experience collaborating with partner forces in an unfamiliar operational environment,” the MSOT team lead said. “Training alongside the Kenyan Marine Commando Unit strengthened our ability to operate together, enhanced combined readiness and reinforced cooperation between our forces.”

Joint Combined Exchange Trainings are a key component of Special Operations Command Africa’s security cooperation efforts, building partner capacity and strengthening the ability of U.S. and African forces to address shared security challenges.
