KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea – The 8th Medical Group recognized 8 Air Force Specialty Codes during Biomedical Sciences Corps Appreciation week, 26-30 Jan.
The BSC was established in 1965 by the Air Force Medical Service, consisting of more than 2,300 officers, 5,900 enlisted members, and 2,000 civilians covering 13 distinct medical professions.
Officers of the BSC work together to provide support for international operations and humanitarian aid, influence and contribute to global health security and policy, as well as advance research in medical technologies.
“As a trained physical therapist, I love providing our Airmen the tools, programs, and resources they need to optimize their performance and keep them fit to fight,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Nicolette Ingel, 8th Medical Group operational support team flight commander and BSC member.
Disciplines of the BSC include physical therapy, optometry, podiatry, physician assistant, audiology, clinical psychology, clinical social work, occupational therapy, aerospace physiology, clinical dietetics, bioenvironmental engineering, public health, pharmacy, and biomedical laboratory.
“With the Biomedical Sciences Corps having multiple AFSCs working together, whether it’s patient care or behind the scenes, you become involved with different trainings, learn different thought processes, and develop partnerships that lead to innovative ideas,” said Ingel.
The 8th MDG provides preventative health services and outpatient medical care to over 2,800 base personnel, with a devotion to optimizing Wolf Pack medical readiness in preparation of follow-on forces.
During this week, the 8th Healthcare Operations and 8th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron conducted joint squadron physical training, Kunsan medical personnel gathered for a professional development course on providing quality feedback to patients, and Wolf Pack members of the BSC organized a career fair to present their roles to base community.
“We have an excellent team of Airmen, that provides preventative measures, maintaining a safe and healthy environment for base personnel,” said U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Carlos Castillo, 8th Operational Readiness Squadron occupational health and environmental element chief and BSC member. “This week reminds us that with leadership, regular trainings and collaboration among different career fields, the Wolf Pack can thrive with Airmen ready to fight.”
