CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE ADDER, Iraq - Soldiers with the 40th Quartermaster Company, 110th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 224th Sustainment Brigade, 103th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, joined distinguished guests and civilian contractors in the ribbon-cutting ceremony held Aug. 17 for the Central Receiving Shipping Point yard in the Joint Distribution Center at Contingency Operating Base Adder, Iraq.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the CRSP yard was introduced with remarks by Lt. Col. Robert Blessing, a chaplain with the 224th Sust. Bde. Lt. Col. David Scheideler, commander of the 110th CSSB, then gave words of encouragement for the Soldiers and civilians operating the yard, stating that the opening of this CRSP yard expresses a change in mission, in support of units leaving theater.

The CRSP yard was established to assist in processing retrograde equipment out of theater due to the responsible drawdown of U.S. forces in Iraq.

“The CRSP yard allows for equipment and parts to be processed and shipped to their final destination,” said Sgt. Donachiko Faison-Cobb, stock control non-commissioned officer with the 40th QM Co., and a Fayetteville, N.C. native. “The yard also allows for soldiers to observe their civilian counterparts working side-by-side. So, if in the future, Soldiers in the logistics field would like to know what is like to work their military occupational specialty as a civilian, they can get first-hand information from the contractors working in the yard.”

Faison-Cobb said the CRSP yard also serves as a training tool for logistics soldiers by allowing them to work in different areas of their MOS’s.

Sgt. Queshawnia Franklin, a JDC NCO with the 40th QM Company, and a New Orleans, La., native, said it is important that everyone knows the functionality of the yard.

“We wanted for all COB Adder residents to be aware of the future of the JDC yard with a fully functional CRSP attached to it.

“Not only will the CRSP yard ship and track equipment destined to Kuwait, but there will also be customs and hazardous materials inspections before we allow the cargo to leave theatre,” said Franklin. “As contractors are reducing their numbers and U.S. forces are doing the same, the mission keeps going, so the more personnel that get trained, the easier the flow of work is being produced by the yard.”

Franklin said she was excited to be given the opportunity to coordinate the CRSP yard opening ceremony along with Faison-Cobb, and the presence of senior leadership participating in the event showed the importance of this new installment to the JDC yard.

The CRSP yard moves thousands of pounds of cargo and equipment daily throughout Iraq and Kuwait. The establishment of the CRSP yard will help the redeployment of units coming from various bases that were closed or returned to the government of Iraq.
