    1st Mission Support Command

FORT BUCHANAN, Puerto Rico – Staff Sgt. Sharlene Vega, serves as the noncommissioned officer in charge for 1st Mission Support Command's Army Reserve Family Programs (ARFP) for over a year and shares her knowledge and resources for Soldiers and their family members.

“We have to help family members because, we are the network of services and support right here in Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands,” said Vega. “We make the initiatives of food pantries, we help the community with aid, and we have a lot of partnerships right now like, the Red Cross and Saint Vincent.”

The Army Reserve Family Programs is a non-profit organization that aids towards the Department of Defense occupations. Their mission is to strengthen the Soldiers and family readiness and resilience across all phases of the military life cycle. For example, in an event of an emergency or catastrophe, they can provide food, counseling and financial resources throughout donations and collaborations with other non-profit organizations. Other services that ARFP can provide are, The Yellow Ribbon program and the Army Substance Abuse Program.

“We have a lot of resources for the Soldiers, and I highly encourage them to take advantage of the resources; they just need to find it,” said Vega. “If you ask us, we have multiple educational, training and health benefits and now we have the homeless benefit, the food pantry and if the Soldiers or their spouse and dependents are trying to get a job, or are in need of crisis and morale support, we have the resources to help them as well”.

<br> Vega’s passion to help others and military experiences allow her to best support Soldiers and their families regardless of the need. With her expertise and accomplishments, she hopes to fulfill the standard quality service that the ARFP can provide for any Soldier and family that reach out for their assistance.
