One killed, seven wounded in Paktika IED attack

PAKTIKA, Afghanistan – One local national was killed and seven wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated in a bazaar shop, Aug. 28, in Shkin village, Paktika province.

Reports by local villagers state that a package was left in the bazaar by a local believed to work for a Taliban commander in the area and the same individual was seen celebrating shortly after the explosion.

Further reports by villagers state that the bazaar was targeted due to the district’s strong support of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Coalition forces.

Cmdr. Aziz of the Bermel District Afghan National Police, along with U.S. Special Forces, conducted a shura with village elders to discuss the damage and further concerns of the villagers.

“The brutality of this act on local civilians, amidst an otherwise peaceful district, is exactly why villagers support the local ANP and are uniting against the insurgents killing their neighbors,” said Donald Lovelace, incoming Special Operations Task Force – East commander.

USSF Soldiers checked the debris and surrounding shops for secondary devices and cleared the area.
