KABUL, Afghanistan - Four Afghan civilians were killed, including two children, and four more civilians were wounded in insurgent attacks in eastern and southern Afghanistan Aug. 30.

"These indiscriminate acts of violence by insurgents continue to cause pain and suffering for innocent Afghans," said U.S. Air Force Col. James Dawkins, ISAF Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "Afghan and coalition forces go to great lengths to avoid causing harm to civilians, often risking their own lives in order to prevent harm to civilians. Yet insurgents continue to recklessly use violence with no regard to the consequences."

Two Afghan children were killed when insurgents attacked a coalition outpost in the Maidan Shahr District of Wardak province.

Insurgents fired three rounds at the outpost, one of which landed in the village of Adamkhel, killing the children.

In a separate incident in the Garm Ser District of Helmand province, insurgents killed a father and son and wounded two other children. According to reports, the father had ignored a letter from insurgents that told him to report to Pakistan.

Two other Afghan civilians were wounded in an improvised explosive device blast along Highway 1 in the Zharay District of Kandahar province.
