KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M.— Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, visited Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, Dec. 9 through Dec. 10, 2025. The archbishop spent two days meeting airmen across the installation focusing on the link between spiritual fitness and mission readiness for all service members.
Focused on addressing the spiritual needs of Airmen, Broglio’s itinerary was an immersive commitment to direct engagement with installation personnel from across the base, providing an invaluable opportunity for dialogue and fellowship.
Broglio’s message consistently reinforced the belief that strong faith helps service members navigate the unique stresses of military life and contributes directly to their effectiveness and emphasizes that spiritual health is an inseparable component of comprehensive readiness.
“Volunteering and helping others in the community and on base is an important asset because so much so depend on, you and the ability to welcome others,.” Broglio said.
The visit’s central event was the celebration of Mass held at the base chapel. For the Kirtland community, the Mass served as a powerful source of spiritual renewal, bringing the faithful together in a shared experience of worship.

The pastoral visit left service members and their families spiritually refreshed and reinforced for the challenges of their crucial roles. His presence demonstrated a deep understanding that supporting the whole Airman—mind, body, and spirit—is vital to the success of the U.S. Air Force mission.
The Archdiocese for the Military Services provides spiritual care to nearly 2.1 million military personnel connected to the U.S. Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Medical Centers worldwide. Broglio’s visit is part of his commitment to ensuring that the vast, globally dispersed group of service members receive dedicated ministry. In addition to his role with the AMS, Broglio recently stepped down as the President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). His distinguished background includes a Doctorate in Canon Law and high-level diplomatic service for the Holy See, serving as Apostolic Nuncio to the Dominican Republic before his installation as Archbishop for the Military Services in 2008.
