NORFOLK, Virginia – Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98), assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) TWO, returned to Naval Station Norfolk following a seven-month deployment to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operations, Dec. 12, 2025.
Forrest Sherman departed Norfolk as part of the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group (CSG 12) for a scheduled deployment on May 6, 2025. The deployment underscored the U.S. Navy's commitment to maritime security and stability. Since their departure, Forrest Sherman participated in eleven exercises, nine port visits and 301 flight deck landings with MH-60R SEAHAWKs from Helicopter Maritime Strike (HSM) 70.

"For 250 years the Navy has sailed the globe protecting American interests and enhancing partnerships. Our crew is honored to be able to continue this proud tradition while serving both 6th and 5th fleet by implementing the Forrest Sherman's motto of 'Relentless Fighting Spirit'".
Forrest Sherman is a multi-mission guided-missile destroyer capable of air warfare (AW), anti-submarine warfare (ASW), naval surface fire support (NSFS), and surface warfare (SUW).
Commissioned on January 20, 2006, Forrest Sherman is the U.S. Navy's 48th Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer and was named in honor of Adm. Forrest Sherman, the 12th Chief of Naval Operations, and the youngest man to serve in that position.
"The Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group is the most capable, adaptable, and lethal organization in the world", stated Rear Adm. Paul Lanzilotta, commander, Carrier Strike Group 12. "With USS Forrest Sherman on our team, the Strike Group responded to world-wide tasking that the nation required. I am proud of their accomplishments while deployed in U.S. Fifth Fleet, protecting the homeland as a crucial part of America's Away Team."
U.S. Fleet Forces Command is responsible for manning, training, equipping, and employing 138,000 active duty Sailors, reservists, and civilians; more than 120 ships and submarines; 1,500 aircraft; seven task forces; and five carrier strike groups. USFFC directs training and readiness across the maritime domain, prepares forces for worldwide deployment, and provides combat-ready naval forces to combatant commanders.
