INDIANA TRAINING CENTER WELCOMES NEW GARRISON COMMANDER AT CAMP ATTERBURY
EDINBURGH, Ind. — The Indiana Training Center held a change of command ceremony Sunday, Dec. 7, at Camp Atterbury, during which Col. Daniel Bell assumed command from Col. James Babbit.
The ceremony formally transferred authority and responsibility for command of the installation. Maj. Gen. Larry Muennich, the adjutant general of the Indiana National Guard, presided over the event.
Bell is the 21st commander of the training center, which oversees operations at Camp Atterbury.
“Col. Bell is a leader of integrity, operational excellence and a deep commitment to the welfare of his soldiers and their families. His reputation for making tough decisions with integrity makes him exactly the right leader for this moment,” Muennich stated in his remarks.
During his remarks, Bell highlighted the installation’s focus on enabling warfighter readiness as one of the nation’s premier training, exercise and testing platforms.
“What sets us apart from the rest is our people … I am proud, deeply proud, to lead such a capable, committed and cohesive team,” Bell stated.
His 28 years of service in the Indiana National Guard include assignments as commander of the 138th Regiment Training Institute, commander of 2nd Battalion, 151st Infantry
Regiment, and the director of operations for the Indiana National Guard.

Camp Atterbury is a federally owned facility, licensed to and operated by the Indiana National Guard. It encompasses 34,000 acres and serves as a training area for the National Guard, Army Reserve, active Army and joint forces. In alignment with the Army Transformation Initiative, the facility is focused on modernization efforts, including unmanned aerial systems and counter-UAS training and warfare. Additionally, the facility serves as one of two National Guard locations designated to support large-scale mobilizations for contingency and rotational operations.
