KABUL - Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police, supported by members from the International Security Assistance Force, discovered a munitions cache in the Ghormach District of Faryab province, Thursday.

The joint operation recovered 350 82mm mortar rounds, 175 fuses and 200 shotgun shell initiation cartridges.

The cache was discovered after a source notified the ANA 3rd Kandak about the weapons. The ANA contacted the ANP for support and the joint Afghan National Security Forces conducted a search, locating the cache approximately five feet underground.

The cache was confiscated and safely transported to the 1st Battalion, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery at Forward Operating Base Ghormach.

The ANA assessed that the cache was left over from the Afghan-Soviet War.
