KADENA AIR BASE, Japan – The 18th Wing has completed annual training exercise BH 26-1 at Kadena Air Base, Japan, Nov. 3-7, 2025, challenging Airmen to execute daily operations under demanding and rapidly evolving conditions. The exercise tested the wing’s ability to maintain mission-essential functions while refining procedures critical to contingency operations across the Indo-Pacific region.
During the opening phase, the 18th Wing simulated a base wide activation amid rising adversarial tensions. Airmen across the installation took accountability of personnel, secured facilities, and prepared for emergency operations.
“Every Airman at Kadena plays a critical part in the fight,” said Chief Master Sgt. William Cupp, 18th Wing command chief. “BH 26-1 reinforces that readiness is everyone’s responsibility. Whether you’re maintaining aircraft, securing perimeters, or supporting communications, every task contributes to keeping our team mission-ready when it matters most.”
As the exercise progressed, simulated conflicts intensified, pushing units to demonstrate their ability to respond to a range of contingencies. Scenarios included chemical detection and response, hazard surveys, personnel accountability, and casualty care — all conducted under compressed timelines and contested conditions.
The weeklong training also emphasized communication, coordination, and decisive leadership across units, ensuring Airmen could sustain operations in complex and high pressure environments.
“Kadena is the keystone of airpower in the Pacific,” said Brig. Gen. John Gallemore, 18th Wing commander. “Our ability to project combat-ready forces from Okinawa directly supports deterrence and stability across the region. Readiness training ensures our Airmen are confident, capable, and ready to execute whenever and wherever they’re called.”.
Through BH 26-1, the 18th Wing continues to reinforce its readiness and reaffirm its role as a critical force in maintaining peace, stability, and security throughout the Indo-Pacific.
