PLANO, Texas. – The Fort Hood Men and Women’s Basketball Teams took home the gold during the Veteran’s Day Rumble Basketball Tournament in Plano, Texas.

The annual tournament brought teams from as far as Florida and Nevada to compete. Two Soldiers from the 120th Infantry Brigade, First Army Division West at Fort Hood, Texas helped make the win possible.

“It was a great accomplishment being able to bring home the championship,” said First Lieutenant Casiano-Floyd Amarilis, an Executive Officer assigned to the 120th Infantry Brigade. “Right now, Fort Hood holds the number one ranking within the Women's Military Basketball Association.”

Teams competed over four days in an elimination style bracket, playing at least one game each day.

“For me, it felt great to win the tournament,” said Captain Antionette Carradine, a Brigade Judge Advocate assigned to the 120th Infantry Brigade. “I have not played organized basketball since I graduated from college in 2013. As one of the oldest players on the team, it feels good to get back out there and compete with my teammates. I was soaking it all in the entire weekend.”

Earning their new spot at the top came from hours of dedicated team and individual training sessions. The women’s team hosts weekly team practices and are expected to do individual workouts throughout the week.

“Events like this increase moral and readiness, keeping Soldiers physically and mentally fit,” said Amarilis. “Our team has amazing chemistry and winning the tournament brought us even closer together.”

The tournament offered a unique opportunity to meet and compete against service members from different installations and military branches.

“The tournament brings service members together from different branches, introducing us to other great players from all over the military,” said Carradine. “Some of us were able to reconnect with old friends and all of us built mutual respect for players we had just met. It reminded me that there are high level athletes and competitors all over the military.”

The teams have begun preparing for their next tournament scheduled for Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada.
