JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – The Soldiers of the 5th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment spent 2025 fighting and winning in the information space. Armed with cameras, pens, and purpose, the Ghostwriters inform to build trust, inspire the force, and capture truth to preserve history. While others fight with rounds and rockets, the 5th MPAD fights with stories that shape how the world sees the U.S. Army.
The detachment’s storytelling reached audiences far beyond the battlefield. FOX News featured the 5th MPAD’s work during Project Flytrap, a counter unmanned aerial systems training series designed to test new, low cost, portable technology against enemy drone threats. The Department of Defense used numerous Ghostwriter photographs to highlight Army operations worldwide. Their coverage also appeared on the Norwegian Royal Family’s official website and across U.S. Army social-media platforms throughout the unit’s European rotation.
“What sets us apart is even after being named [Public Affairs] Unit of the Year, we refused to become complacent,” said Spc. Jaidyn Moore, a 5th MPAD multimedia team leader. “While others met the standard, the 5th MPAD set it, continuously striving for excellence and inspiring our peers to reach new heights.”
That drive for excellence became the unit’s signature. At Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Soldiers continued covering events and producing content for I Corps and U.S. Army Garrison JBLM, documenting joint operations such as Exercise Talisman Sabre 25 in Australia and community events across the installation. Whether in the Pacific or Europe, the Ghostwriters’ teamwork kept the Army’s story moving in real time.
“We empower our Soldiers,” said Capt. Richard Parlato, the 5th MPAD multimedia section officer in charge. “Public Affairs Soldiers are some of the most creative and resourceful in the Army. We tapped into that by letting junior leaders make decisions, run missions and represent the Army to foreign partners. Their dedication has become the ‘Ghostwriter advantage.’”
The 5th MPAD earned recognition from Brig. Gen. Amanda I. Azubuike, Chief of Public Affairs, for innovative storytelling and a collective commitment to excellence. Through its products, the detachment reinforced readiness, transparency, and lethality by showing how information power supports combat power. The team also enhanced the Army’s engagement with the U.S. Army 250th Birthday Campaign, highlighting the Army’s legacy, strength and enduring lethality.
As 2025 closes, the Ghostwriters continue to fight with truth and lead with story. Their work advances the Army’s mission to fight and win our Nation’s wars through competition in the information space. Every word, every image, and every frame—strengthen the force they proudly serve.
