AirborneReady System Modernizes Training and Enhances Readiness

    By Army Software Factory

The 82nd Airborne Division and the Army Software Factory have revolutionized how the Army tracks and reports Airborne training readiness. Together, they’ve built AirborneReady, an innovative software solution that empowers soldiers, enhances accuracy, and strengthens combat effectiveness across the Army’s Immediate Response Force.

For decades, the process of documenting Airborne operations relied heavily on paper records, often time-consuming to manage, prone to error, and difficult to audit. Despite the Army’s continued modernization, jump log data management had seen little change since World War II. Soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division identified this long-standing gap and took action to develop a software solution informed by soldiers, for soldiers.

Originally developed as a proof of concept by soldiers at the Army Software Factory, AirborneReady has transitioned to Army Training Information System, where it is being scaled for enterprise-wide use. This innovation reflects the Army’s commitment to software modernization and readiness, prioritizing lethality, agility and adaptability across the force. Further, the potential for rapid off-shoots is clear and that work is already underway.

AirborneReady delivers a fast, accurate, and secure solution for electronically managing training records for over 355,000 soldiers, streamlining readiness tracking and eliminating cumbersome manual processes, saving over 64,000 soldier hours per year. Leaders can now access real-time, reliable data in the ATIS distributed learning system, enabling faster decision-making and ensuring units maintain the highest levels of combat power and preparedness.

AirborneReady is aligned with the Army Transformation Initiative, designed to ensure the Army remains the most lethal and ready land force in the world. Following a recent directive from the U.S. Secretary of War, the Army is moving swiftly to implement sweeping reforms, reexamining all requirements and eliminating those that are outdated or redundant. ATI focuses on three lines of effort: Deliver critical warfighting capabilities, optimize force structure, and eliminate waste and obsolete programs. It’s about building a ready, lethal and modern force. This software assists in transforming airborne operations and improving war-winning capabilities.

"The newly implemented system significantly improves the efficiency and reliability of the airborne community" said Master Sgt. Christopher Slone, air operations noncommissioned officer for 18th Airborne Corps, formally an instructor with 82nd Airborne Division at the U.S. Army Advanced Airborne School.

“We’re proud to partner and collaborate with the Software Factory to bring the AirborneReady solution to the entire Army Airborne community,” said Lt. Col. John Nikiforakis, ATIS product manager at U.S. Army Program Executive Office Enterprise. “This is a great example of collaboration across the Army and how PEO Enterprise can help deliver soldier-centered software solutions.”

The successful transition of AirborneReady from the Army Software Factory to ATIS marks more than just a technical handoff; it demonstrates a repeatable path for scaling soldier-driven innovations into sustained, enterprise-grade solutions. As a program of record, ATIS provides AirborneReady with operational support and integration into the Army’s broader training and readiness ecosystem.

Aligned with the Secretary of the Army’s vision for rapidly scaling digital solutions to the Warfighter through non-traditional pathways, AirborneReady’s integration into ATIS enables commanders to better allocate training resources, reduce administrative overhead, and meet and exceed mission readiness requirements in the Army’s next-generation training system. This transition is proof that the Army’s digital transformation strategy is working; innovative solutions built by soldiers can move quickly from concept to capability and find a permanent home inside enduring systems built to scale.
